Conservation of artworks demands good knowledge from many fields of science, art history and techniques of the old craftsmen. As well as high artistic skills and ability to perfect color matching.
Irek T. Szelag recieved his M.Sc (1978) from Technical University of Lodz (TUL), Poland.
Between 1984 to 1986 he studied painting, drawing and art history under supervision of teachers and professors from Art Academy in Lodz.
In Poland he run his own studio
(1980-1987) specializing in artistic ceramic production as well as conservation of paintings and art objects.
Barbara Szelag (M.Sc. 1975) his wife and assistant specializes in painstaking processes of paintings cleaning as well as most delicate stages of porcelain restoration. Irek's part - structural restoration, color matching, retouching and final varnishing of paintings and porcelain.
In 1990 Irek T. Szelag established a new conservation studio in St.Louis, Missouri.
